UPDATE: I eventually had the same reaction many users have reported with Eos lip balm and had to quit using it. I got extreme dryness, cracking and redness around my lips. Also, I had two different eggs of balm develop black spots down in the bottom center area. Big black spots that looked like mold. I cannot recommend this product.
I recently found the eos Smooth Lip Balm Sphere Holiday Ornament Gift 3-Pack ($9.99 at Drugstore.com, $8.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond) at Bed Bath and Beyond. I love eos balms, and buying the trio cost the same as buying three individuals so I figured it would be a good value. Plus, it has a vanilla bean flavor I was almost guaranteed to like, which is limited edition. I wasn’t disappointed! The texture and hydration is the same from flavor to flavor. The first Eos balm I ever bought was Sweet Mint flavor, which I chose because I don’t like flavors that stick around and clash with food I eat later. But Eos doesn’t really do that – the scents just aren’t all that strong, and they’re all pretty mild, even the Pomegranate Raspberry. It’s a little stronger than the others, but not enough to bug me, especially since they work so well for my perpetually dry lips. I’ve tried just about every balm over the years, and nothing else keeps my lips hydrated for more than a couple of hours. I don’t know what it is that’s different about this formula, but it just works for me.
In case you’re just hearing about Eos for the first time, these balms are shaped like little eggs (see pictures below). You twist off the upper half of the plastic shell (that’s the lid) and the balm is a round oval inside that you can rub around your lips. The texture of it is balmy – not too creamy, and definitely not very slick or sticky. On the lips, it forms a coating which stays moist for hours for me. It doesn’t seem to move around when you smush your lips together – I guess it must move around, but it just seems to cover everywhere evenly no matter what I do.
They boast 55% organic ingredients and “100% natural” – I don’t pay much attention to the word “natural” in marketing because anyone can claim anything is “natural”. In this case, it means ingredients like seed oils, fruit oils and beeswax. The top ingredient is actually olive oil, and I suspect it’s what makes this formula work so well for me. Olive oil is very hydrating and soaks well into skin.
This is a really cute, colorful little set for a stocking stuffer or small gift. It’s meant to be hanged on a tree as an ornament, which makes it even more fun.
