Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 Eye Pencil Set

Once again, Urban Decay has released a limited edition collection of 8 of their full-size 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils for the holidays. Ocho Loco 2 features five new, exclusive shades and 3 shades that were included with Ocho Loco 1 last year. The set comes with a Grindhouse pencil sharpener which has been slightly redesigned from the old one, and which I’ll review separately [see the link].

Ocho Loco 2 is priced at $59, which is less than the price of three eye pencils bought separately, making it a very good bargain as long as the quality is up to par. It’s exactly what I’ve come to expect of these liners, especially since they reformulated them about a year ago – all of them are very good, with some shades being a little more creamy than others, and some being less opaque but building up just fine. I don’t consider any of these a disappointment at all!

I get very good wear from these – no budging, smudging or fading. I got no skipping or tugging from any of these. Some people don’t have as good luck with this formula, and my guess is that it – and specifically certain shades – can be a little too creamy for some skin types, especially in the creamier shades. The bottom line is, you can expect this set to perform as well for you as the rest from this line.

Roach was in Ocho Loco 1 and is also in the permanent collection. It’s a warm bronze shimmer. It has some red to it, but I can wear it anytime my eyes aren’t seriously red themselves. It’s very pigmented in one swipe and it glides on easily.

Twice Baked is one of the limited edition shades. It’s a cooler, darker brown than Roach – chocolate with golden shimmer. It’s not very opaque in one swipe but builds up very nicely. The texture is a little more dry than some, but it still applies very comfortably.

Crave is another exclusive shade – a very deep chocolate matte. It’s actually more opaque in one swipe than it looks in this photo – the thing is, when I applied it with regular pressure, it was opaque but the whole tip broke off because this one is extremely creamy and soft. I prefer to apply it lightly and build – which it does flawlessly.

Perversion is another permanent collection color. It’s a super-rich dark black cream. As you can see, it’s ludicrously pigmented in one swipe and actually doesn’t get any darker with more. It’s on the creamy side, but I’ve never had the tip break off as with Crave. Perversion reminds me of what happens when you take a cheap black eyeliner that’s dark enough but not creamy, and you stick the eyeliner tip in a lighter for a second and you get that incredibly rich black from it.

Deep End is the final permanent collection color from this set. It’s a bright ocean blue with slight green undertones and silvery shimmer. It’s opaque in one swipe and has a soft creamy texture.

Mars is an emerald green shimmer with green and silver shimmer. It’s just slightly on the cool side. It’s very pigmented and opaque.

Ultraviolet is a bright medium blue with violet undertones and silver and blue shimmer. It’s reasonably opaque in one pass but a lot more shimmer shows up with a second pass.

Tornado is a dark plum with a satiny finish. It’s a little weak with one pass, but builds up nicely.

Ocho Loco 2 is available at Urban Decay, $59.
