Rimmel Bulletproof Beige & Paranoid Purple Scandaleyes Shadow Sticks

Remember the Wet N Wild Icon Eyes Eyeshadow Pencils? And the dreaded Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencils? And the Maybelline Color Tattoos which come in pots rather than crayon form? Guess which one of these the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Shadow Sticks most resemble?

If you guessed the Maybelline Color Tattoos, you guessed right. In a nutshell, these Rimmel pencils are everything I’d hoped the Wet N Wild and Nars products would be. Lots of pigmentation and a texture that’s creamy enough to blend and sheer out for a minute or so, but sets without creasing or smearing. Like the Tattoos, it’s easy to work with and the color you get on your lids is just like the color of the crayon, so there are no surprises there. I never test products for 24 hours – I just don’t leave makeup on that long, ever – but even without primer they wear a good 12 hours without any fading on me. Of course your mileage may vary – I have a friend whose lids are so oily that the Tattoos only made it 2 hours on her with primer (my wear time with the Tattoos is a good 12 hours as well). I didn’t get any creasing with these either.

If you like cream shadows in stick form, I strongly advise checking these out. I’m a little clumsy with shadow sticks myself, but I only made one unholy mess before mastering these (trust me, that’s good). You can get really stark or really soft looks, depending how you blend. In the photos below, you’ll see I also used the purple one as an eyeliner, and it did a great job there too.

How to apply. There are a number of ways to apply these, and we won’t all prefer the same method. But for what it’s worth, I first apply them directly to my lids and then blend them out with a flat concealer brush (any reasonably stiff brush will work). While I liked just using my fingers on the Tattoos, I felt these had a slightly creamier texture that really worked with brushes, and the brush let me blend with precision: I could just blur the edges a tiny bit, or really soften everything. Fingers also work – it really just depends what the “artist” in you likes!

Bulletproof Beige is a neutral pale beige with lots of gold shimmer. In the swatch photo, you’re seeing just one swipe on the left and several back and forth swipes on the right. As you can see, it’s pretty opaque with one swipe.

Paranoid Purple is a purple with a blackened base and blue shimmer. It leans slightly cool, but is neutral enough to work on most skin tones. Again, it’s pretty opaque with just one swipe.
